Cindy Van Parijs, Compensation & Benefits Leads at Corilus, succeeds Dries Dennequin (Fluvius) as Fleet & Mobility Owner of the Year 2024. Together with Els De Volder and Peter Haelvoet, she received this recognition as a result from years of strategic efforts and progressive mobility projects. With a vision focused on sustainability, operational efficiency and employee satisfaction, Corilus has implemented a mobility policy in line with the changing needs of the current and future work environment. Corilus publishes software for the healthcare sector.
The basis of a sustainable mobility policy at Corilus
Corilus’ mobility policy started several years ago with a detailed analysis of the then existing fleet and wider mobility options. Until 2020, the fleet consisted of 100% diesel vehicles, managed by an external fleet service provider. The focus on sustainability took centre stage from 2021, with Corilus deciding to green its fleet, taking into account tax changes and ESG targets. By moving to first plug-in hybrid and later electric vehicles as standard, Corilus systematically manages to reduce its fleet’s CO₂ emissions.
Over the past two years, Corilus’ fleet department has been engaged in a complete transformation to make its fleet greener. As Cindy Van Parijs explains: ‘We came from a 100% diesel fleet. The plan to switch to an all-electric fleet was a big change for us’. Today, 53% of the company’s fleet is electric (EV or PHEV).
Insourcing Fleet Management, with Headlight
After a successful collaboration with Let it Fleet, a Belgian start-up specialising in fleet & mobility management, in this initial diagnostic phase, Corilus set about further professionalising its mobility management in the years that followed. This led to the implementation of Headlight, the fleet management software solution by Headlight (Let it Fleet), which streamlined and digitised internal processes. The addition of the Headlight platform enabled full insourcing of fleet management. Corilus also reintegrated insurance into its leases. The aim of all this is to better control the TCO of the fleet. Headlight proved essential in managing the growing fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles and ensured that data was centrally available, ensuring seamless monitoring.
Innovative mobility options and employee engagement
Besides fleet renewal, Corilus introduced mobility options such as bicycle leasing, the FlexIncome plan and public transport allowances. This gave employees more flexibility and freedom of choice, which increased both satisfaction and engagement. The mobility budget also gave employees the option to opt for a cash alternative, which contributed to a better balance between personal needs and sustainable business goals. Surveys and regular feedback moments allowed Corilus to respond to employees’ wishes and eliminate any resistance.
Results and impact
Corilus’ sustainable approach resulted in an impressive 40% CO₂ reduction compared to fleet emissions in 2021. In addition, significant amount of costs were saved in recent years through TCO optimisation and the deployment of electric vehicles. Today, more than half of the Corilus fleet consists of electric vehicles, an ambition Corilus continues to pursue to have at least 46% fully electric by 2026.
The road to the award
These successes were shared and validated during the final jury presentation for the Fleet & Mobility Owner of the Year 2024 election. The team highlighted not only the results achieved, but also future plans, such as reviewing mobility options after office moves and focusing on maintaining an attractive fleet. In this, the Headlight solution proved to be a crucial tool to optimise operational service to employees.
Looking ahead
Cindy and her team remain committed to innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, and the Fleet & Mobility Owner of the Year 2024 award is a powerful recognition of these efforts. Thanks to a sound strategy, close collaboration with partners such as Let it Fleet and Headlight, and an employee-centred approach, Corilus continues to work on a mobility policy that is future-proof and contributes to its ESG goals.
